You choose the subject and the duration, and we can bring the training to you, at a time to suit your needs.

Possible subjects you might consider are:

  • Promoting healthy childcare practice – how to build healthy eating, sleep and rest, and exercise into the care routine

  • Child development – including language and communication, intellectual development, sensory development, the outdoor curriculum, social and emotional development (including behaviour)

  • Behaviour management – how to positively promote good behaviour in a childcare setting, how to deal with negative behaviour, working with a behaviour policy, the importance of consistency with colleagues and parents/carers.

  • Observing children – learn the different techniques for observing children under the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. What type of observation should you use when? What different methods can I use?

  • Planning activities for children – the planning cycle, how to link observations to planning, planning around individual needs, planning to include equality and diversity, topics and themes, learning outcomes.

  • Early Years Foundation Stage – this covers the Welfare Requirements, key principles of EYFS, the Learning and Development requirements, links to planning and observation

  • Early Years Foundation Stage and the outdoors – as above, plus an extra hour on the outdoor curriculum, it’s importance under EYFS, challenging what we already do outdoors and improving upon it, some ideas for exciting activities

  • Promoting positive relationships – how to create a harmonious environment, by promoting effective communication with children, parents, and colleagues. This session covers the information you should be providing for parents/carers, and the information you should be getting from them. It also looks at ways of promoting partnership with parents, and how to work effectively as a team.

  • Equality and diversity in a childcare setting - this session covers the different types of discrimination, how to challenge discrimination and how to celebrate diversity both in the environment and in activities you do with children. It also teaches you how to meet the needs of individual children and families.

  • Reflective practice – how to reflect on, and make improvements to, current practice. One of the best ways you can develop is to challenge your existing practice. This course provides you with tools for reflective practice. This provides valuable evidence for OFSTED that you are continually striving for change and improvements to practice.

  • Supervision and appraisal – an excellent course for room supervisors and managers, teaching the principles of effective appraisal. This course is also suitable for those who are being appraised or receiving supervision, as it enables them to prepare for the process and guides them on what to expect of it.

  • Moving and handling – this is an introduction to safe moving and handling in a childcare setting. Learn how to protect yourself from injury, and about the dangers of poor moving and handling techniques.

  • Health and safety in a childcare setting - you will learn how to keep all service users safe, about what the law says about health and safety in a childcare setting, how to follow policies and procedures, how to carry out risk assessments and do the necessary recording and reporting of accidents and incidents.

All bespoke training can be referenced to the NVQ standards for Children’s Care, Learning and Development for anyone who is undertaking an NVQ.
